I'd feel a lot safer walking alone at night in Halfway than I would in most areas in Sheffield. The main hospitals in Sheffield are The Hallamshire, The Northern General, the Children's, Weston Park (a specialised cancer hospital), plus a number of small private hospitals. First you have to go under the train lines through a tunnel that I can only say is that if you get through to the other side then your Bruce Lee but if you get in any problems inside your fucked and you will die in the pools of piss that cover the floor. I would avoid the main student areas - they can get very noisy (so Ecclesall Road, Broomhill, Broomhall, Crookes, Walkley) and very busy traffic wise.
