I acted on this impulse because I remembered the near hysterical rage with which Simone de Beauvoir described these books which she considered to foul instruments of indoctrination for forming meek, submissive, catholic and bourgeois housewives. Les malheurs de Sophie were quite charming and I enjoyed the little more or less connected episodes. However, there are a lot of animal abuse in the story which is bothering for me.Crazy wonderful book that puts the "sick" into "Classic"!! i would have liked to have read it when i was younger, it's such a lovely children's book.loved this one, the plot was extremely enjoyable and the characters likeable. It is a cute novel anyway. It's a book you have to read a chapter a night to not feel bored and having the feeling that you just read that or that you are being brainwashed somehow.

I read some people complained because it's half "Malheurs De Sophie " half "Petites Filles Modèles " and Paul is absent in the second part ,apart from a dream (probably inspired by Bernard Deyriès 's animated TV series of the late nineties).Fans have to remember that "Les petites Filles Modèles" was actually the first book Ségur wrote;and "Les Malheurs De Sophie" was not even planned when " Les Vacances " ,the third part was intended as a follow-up ;in "Les Petites Filles Modeles",when Sophie appears ,whe know almost nothing from her past (" she lost her parents in a shipwreck") and never ,in a month of Sundays ,Sophie hints at her cousin Paul ,and for a good reason:the character did not exist then.Keep track of everything you watch; tell your friends.
